Origins' 4 afterlife realms and it's battles with the cursed Pharaohs may have been some of my favorite locations/sequences in any video game!

The last piece of Origins content, my personal highlight due to it's mythological focus, Curse of the Pharaoh's was exactly as good as I expected it would be.

Just like for Odyssey, the mythological parts of the game would become my favorite, so it was Elysium, the Underworld and Atlantis alongisde the 4 mythological beasts in Odyssey, and now all the feather death sequences, battles with Atep/Egyptian Gods/Pharaoh's and Aaru, Aten, Duat and Heb Sa in Origins.

Simply mesmerizing and stunning, the story was great, it was a pure joy and a true grande finale to this wonderful game! Here are some of my personal favorite shots I took during the DLC, enjoy :)

I really want double assassinations to return, not in the form of origins, but more like what we've seen unity and 3-4

Is it arguable to say that the AC III soundtrack is one of the best AC soundtracks, if not the best?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:57 PM PDT

Speaking in terms of the overall score and every song (not just comparing it to a single track like Ezio's family if that makes sense), the AC III soundtrack sounds the most cinematic. There are recurring musical melodies that are honestly very moving. I haven't played the game yet but plan to soon! Some of the soundtracks for AC sound more like ambiance than score. Not to dis any of them, they're all great, AC III is just a standout. Lorne Balf, the composer, also studied under Hans Zimmer, which could explain why it sounds so cinematic.

Even after being out almost 13 years I still think Ac1 has some of the hardest combat

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:39 PM PDT

It's either I got rusty or this game was hard from the start. But I love it it's a learning curve to learn all the moves and get timing down fighting Templars is difficult and that's awesome it feels like an actual duel sometimes I'm just glad after 13 years Ac1 continues to amaze me

This might sound a bit weird, but I really hope Valhalla is a bit more brutal then the rest of the games.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:54 PM PDT

Not a DOOM level of brutal, perhaps a TW3 level of brutal (decapitations, cutting other limbs off etc.) it'll make the game more fun and realistic in my opinion.

So what's your thought of this idea?

what happens during the assasination clips?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 07:50 AM PDT

this is something thats been bugging me for a some time now...
when youre assassinating your target, you get this dialogue with them. i could understand if thats just a conversation the ancestor had with their target.... but then unity came...

at that point it wasnt a conversation anymore; you get to see memories from your target...
and in origins it looks like your having that conversation in duat?

is this some way that the animus formats those specific memories for us, or is this some weird 6th sense that the ancesor had?

The eagle in the newer AC games should work differently.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:45 PM PDT

In my opinion the eagle feels way too much like a drone.

You can pause in mid-air, see through walls and also see stuff like treasure chests inside of rooms. I just feel like it takes away the challenge of actually finding stuff in a fort or enemy camp.

(Now regarding AC odyssey) It also takes away from the exploration mode. Giving you directions instead of a marker on the map is a welcome change but when you can still look in the general direction of the target with your eagle and it exactly tells you where the objective is takes a bit away from this more explorative experience.

How the beggining of Origins made me cry (SPOILERS ALERT)

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:33 AM PDT

So, I picked up Origins after a year of not playin AC games (last one was Oddysey and that one took me 150+ hours).

And damn, that moment where you find out about your son. It got to me (more so because I am a father of two).

I knew that his son was gone (dead), but in the cut scene where they say "you'll never see your son again", it got my hopes up, thinking "oh, they just kidnapped him and he'll find him later on". Nope. Straight through the heart.

And then the first location of the stars and the cut scene with his son.

I'm only in Siwa and I'm already crying.

P.s.: a little thing that bothers me is the way Bayek is acting in current cut scenes, smiling and what not. Your son is gone dude. :(

Playing through Brotherhood for the first time, it's a brilliant sequel to AC2 however the Full Sync challenge mechanic is absolutely ruining the experience for me.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:15 AM PDT

To clarify, I'm talking about the condition that is placed upon every Memory Start which will determine if you get a 100% sync or partial sync, conditions such as "Defeat attackers without losing any health", "Only kill the Captain", or "Sync memory within x minutes". This is meant to present some kind of an advanced challenge and if it's not passed you'll be presented with a "Synchronisation Failed" screen each time, yet will still be allowed to progress and re-attempt the full sync later.

How is this a thing? How is it better than just offering an Ezio mode with the difficulty settings ramped up to the full sync requirements? Having to see every sync as failed is just a downer, I can't count the number of times I've just had to restart a sequence just for the sake of completion - any chance of fluid story progression is lost. It is the epitome of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I understand now why Assassin's Creed 2 was so highly regarded: it just flowed. The memory sync conditions were just binary - you either met reasonable sync conditions or you de-synced entirely. You were free to operate within those parameters, "Kill the Captain without being seen", etc. Not "Kill the Captain by throwing him into the scaffolding" - this is essentially neutering all of the creative options the game was designed to present.

I understand they needed to add difficulty levels to the sequel - but why do it so carelessly so as to hinder the choices a player can make?

I hope the latter games aren't like this.

Continuing my AC Journey Part 3: Thoughts on 100%ing Brotherhood

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:47 AM PDT

Hello all! This is going to be part of a series chronicling my first time playing the Assassin's Creed games during 2020 and, hopefully, beyond! Here's links to the previous parts:

    Part 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/gjluc1/starting_my_ac_journey_just_beat_ac1_directors/

    Part 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/gqh3f2/continuing_my_ac_journey_part_2_thoughts_after/

43 hours later, and I am completely exhausted after 100%ing Brotherhood (Other than the Templar Lair that comes with the Master Assassin's Pack, which I mentioned in my AC2 Thoughts. I'll get to it once I get enough Ubisoft Club experience to unlock it). What a DENSE game! While AC2 had plenty to do, Brotherhood looked at AC2, laughed at its "lack" of content, and just piled on the side activities. Guild Challenges, Guild Missions, claiming Borgia towers, a whole extra sequence about a love lost, rebuilding Rome, two DLC sequences, tons of collectibles, extra stuff in Modern Day like Virtual Training, bringing back Emails, and collecting Artifacts in Monteriggioni, and, probably the most controversial choice, decided to add extra objectives to nearly every mission for "100% Sync". It was often overwhelming to the point where new activities would open up, and I would have to put down the controller to go do something else for awhile. This game was just...A LOT.

To begin, I understand why a lot of AC fans put Brotherhood above AC2. Gameplay-wise, Brotherhood leaps ahead of AC2 in numerous ways. Controlling Ezio felt smoother, there's PLENTY to do, and Rome, despite some initial misgivings I had about it when I started, really felt like home by the time I was done with the game (It's probably my second favorite city in the series so far, just behind Venice). Climbing the Colosseum was a highlight, for example, and having to rebuild Rome really added to the experience that Rome was home. Also, getting to recruit a Brotherhood of Assassins that go on missions and to call to take care of troublesome enemies was a delightful addition that really enhanced both the gameplay and Ezio's growth as a character.

Speaking of, another improvement over AC2 was the story. Brotherhood really built on the building blocks of AC2's story, and its story beats were immensely satisfying. Ezio and Claudia repairing their strained relationship, and Claudia becoming a full-fledged Assassin, was fantastic, as was getting to see Ezio rebuild the Brotherhood, growing as an older man, and then being declared the Mentor. The intrigue between La Volpe and Machiavelli was also well done. Ceasere was another excellent villain, possibly more so than Rodrigo, as I really hated Ceasere by the end of the game; it was very satisfying when Ezio dropped him off a castle. Even minor characters, like Lucrezia, childhood rival Duccio or Senator Egidio, really helped enhance the setting and story. I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed the story of this game, but, to keep this brief, it was a major highlight.

However, ultimately, I think I wound up enjoying AC2 a bit more than Brotherhood, despite these improvements. That's because of the various activities that, I felt, detracted from the game. My experience will likely be different from those who just played through the story, but as someone who likes to go for 100% completion, there were activities in Brotherhood that made this an absolute chore. Specifically, this came down to four points: Claiming the Borgia Towers, the Guild Challenges, the extra content in Modern Day, and, the worst offender by far, 100% Syncing every Mission.

First, the Borgia Towers. Now, I actually really enjoyed the concept and the execution of these. I enjoyed claiming territory, assassinating Borgia Captains, and it was always satisfying to blow up a Tower and then start rebuilding the region that was liberated. However, the irritating part was that you could liberate 3/4ths of these early in the game...and then the last three are behind Memory Walls until much later in the game. I would have to check after every Sequence just to see if they were accessible, which irked me. Why not just let you liberate them all early, if you so chose? Other than allowing you to build up Income early, it wouldn't have had much of an impact on the structure of the game if the whole map was available early on. It's a minor quibble, but it caused me enough frustration to at least mention it.

Next, Guild Challenges were a mixed bag. While I know they weren't strictly required 100% sync, they provided some good weapons (Like the Sword of Altair) that I didn't want to pass up. Ultimately, I felt the Assassins' Guild and Thieves' Guild Challenges were mostly reasonable, while the Mercanaries' Guild was a bit more of a chore, and the Courtesans' Guild was straight-up annoying. These could have been abridged without detracting from the game at all. Ultimately, though, these felt like busywork and didn't add much other than increased playtime to the game.

As for the Modern Day, up until this point, I felt the MD sequences in previous games were mildly interesting, and while I think they'd have better served both the historical sections as well as themselves better if they had just been their own game, they were intersting enough that they didn't really bother me much. Brotherhood, though, puts more emphasis on MD than its predecessors, and I felt they detracted from the game as a whole. Checking Emails became a chore, as they offered very little information outside of some character building and vague ideas of what was happening with the MD Assassins elsewhere in the world. Collecting the Artifacts was entirely pointless (Although it was very brief, thankfully). The Glyph puzzles were especially iritating this time around and, unlike the revelation of The Truth in AC2 which was VERY interesting, I felt the revelation of the The Truth in this game was both underwhelming and a tad confusing. Finally, the end of the game with Desmond in the Colosseum was completely unnecessary and just padded the ending with something I wasn't very interested in. And then, of course, is what Desmond does to Lucy at the end, leaving off with an infuriating cliffhanger. Ultimately, I was not a fan of MD in this game, and it really made me wish MD had been given its own game rather than being shoehorned into this.

Finally, the primary reason I have to rank Brotherhood lower than AC2: 100% Syncing Missions. Now, in theory, I'm not against this. Adding extra objectives can make missions more fun, and for the most part, many of these didn't bother me. However, the extra objectives that DID bother me, namely any mission that had "Remain Undetected", "Don't Lose ANY Health Squares" or "Complete This Lair in X amount of Minutes" spoiled the entire concept for me. The first of these, Remain Undetected, could be fun if the game had legitimate stealth tools (I'm a long-time MGS fan, the king of Stealth games, in my opinion), but it wound up being often entirely frustrating as, often, the game assumed you would have to memorize missions in order to complete these objectives, requiring multiiple playthroughs to achieve it. This was also an issue with timed missions, especially the Lairs of Romulus, where you'd have to do a minimum of 2 runs: one to get the Borgia Flags and one to complete the mission in time. And then, there were the missions that required that you didn't take any damage at all, all while having to fight dozens of combatants, essnetially requiring you to master Execution Streaks (Which, other than this instance, were a major improvement to the game), Counter Kills, Dodging, and quick use of your Assassins and Arrow Storms. And then, of course, was the infamous Tank mission, where I was forced to use the glitch to not get hit by the two tanks at the end.

These three types of bonus objectives made getting 100% an often infuriating experience, and considering that I think the game was mostly an improvement from AC2, it's a shame that the frustration that these types of missions caused really dragged down the quality of the game for me.

Ultimately, though, I mostly enjoyed my experience with Brotherhood and really appreciated the improvements it made to the AC2 formula. Maybe with time, I'll look back at it more fondly and place it above AC2, but the fresh frustrations caused by the issues with the game keep me from claiming it was a better experience than AC2. And with that, it's time for me to finish the Ezio Collection and move on to Revelations!

    Origins: Escort and Carry Missions

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:22 AM PDT

    Possible unintended spoilers.

Playing through Origins for the first time and about 85% of the way through the main story. Having only played Odyssey and Black Flag, I love the game so far (top notch story, acting and environment; Bayek is awesome.) but the one thing that is really starting to bug me:

The sheer number of "carry me to safety" or "escort/follow me" missions is insane. I don't like repetitive FedEx Quests a whole lot (overdone in Odyssey) but is a balance too much to ask? It seems like the vast majority of side quests in Origins have me either following someone, escorting someone, or carrying someone out of a camp. I'm starting to miss "go here, kill/collect thing" type quests.

On a side note, a lesser annoyance is the Gladiator Arenas and Hippodrome. Those features feel poorly done and have very little reward for the effort. Odyssey's arena was much better.

Possible concept, Assassins Creed during prohibition era.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:39 AM PDT

Image the scenary. Running around with a fedora, raincoat and the hidden blade, killing mafia enforcers. They find you, you pull out the good ol' Tommy. You drive old cars and you fight Al Capone. Freerunning could be amasing as well. They could even bring the gang mechanic from Syndicate, and improve on it so much more. You could run your own underground operations... IMO I think that has the potential for one of the best AC games ever. I would love to see that one day...

Playing AC Origins, did anyone focus more on the melee/warrior side than the hunter/stealth aspects? And any advice on weapon management, melee combat, etc?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:39 PM PDT

So I was wondering if anyone when playing Origins focused more on the action combat, and treated the game as an action game over being a stealth/hunter game? I recently played Horizon (recent as in finished in January) and absolutely loved the ranged/stealth combat, setting up traps, tripwires, ropecasting and tying enemies down, etc.

But now I treat AC Origins as more action-ey, especially what with no slowdown on using the bow or no help aiming for the head during combat. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for playing the game like an "Action RPG" over anything else, as well as weapon management, best weapon type combinations and what synergies work well together? Thanks in advance!

Can we get an AC game that shows how the USA became Templar-controlled?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:16 AM PDT

In AC3 we see that the Assassins support the American Revolution (or at least Connor does, and he recruits others who are anti-British). By the end of the story, Charles Lee and Haytham are dead, so the Templars are basically defeated (iirc). We also know from the lore that by WW2, the US was run by Templars who initiated the war.

Yes we see some hints in AC3 that the Americans will be tempted by power/Templar ideology/Isu artifacts. But I would love a game that returned to the US in a period of time somewhere between the revolution and WW2 and told the story of exactly how the Templars were able to so deeply infiltrate American society/government. Does that interest anyone else? What time period do you all think that might be based on history and/or AC lore?
