Assassins Creed: the Rebel Collection- Performance, content, issues and more

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 10:50 AM PST

It has been about one and a half month since the release of the rebel collection, a Nintendo Switch exclusive compilation consisting of Assassins Creed 4: Black flag and Assassins Creed: Rogue, along with all single player DLC. I have decided to create this post to show the quality and changes for the port, as very little has been discussed about this version of the game.

    File sizes

Black Flag is a 19 GB installation, with Rogue being an extra 7.1 GB as free downloadable content. There is also an 'Extra Content Pack' that is 1.2 GB, which will be discussed in more detail in the content section

    Languages

English is included with the download of the game, with 7 other audio packs available for download: French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, Brazilian and Japanese.

Also included in the download are numerous languages for the in-game text and subtitles, these being: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Traditional- only subtitles), Chinese (traditional), Czech*, Danish*, Dutch, Finnish*, Hungarian*, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian*, Polish, Portuguese*, Russian, Swedish*

    *Text not available for Rogue

    Performance

The version of Black Flag is a slightly enhanced version of the Xbox 360/ PS3 version of the game, up scaled to 1080p in docked mode. Overall, I have experienced no performance issues with this version. The dynamic resolution keeps the frame-rate at a fairly solid 30 FPS, with only minor dips being seen

However, the version used for Rogue is the remastered version for current gen consoles, as evidenced by the main menu design and the movement of foliage when moving through stalking zones. The performance is slightly worse, though it is hardly noticeable, with a slightly lower minimum resolution and a slightly more fluctuating frame-rate

Overall, the performance of both games is fairly solid, with the frame-rate and resolution both being decent, and certainly better than the switch port of Assassins Creed 3: Remastered. Also, the sound quality for both versions is good, though admittedly I don't have the best ear for audio.

    Content

This compilation includes all of Black Flag and Rogue, as well as all previous DLC, with one exception, that being the Maid of Amsterdam sea shanty originally available through AC Initiates (which has shut down and is not on the switch version). Some concept art and trailers for both games are also included. However, some of the DLC is locked behind Ubisoft Club, mostly being the paid DLC for outfits and customisation, as well as the loyalty rewards. DLC earned through other means, such as iniative rewards or other promotions, as well as the illustrious priates pack, Aveline and Freedom Cry are included without the use of ubisoft club

The 'Extra Content Pack' contains the first 55 pages of 'Blackbeard: The Lost Journal' and the 'Assassins Creed: Awakening' manga.

As well as this, there is also content exclusive to this version of the game. There are 8 new outfits added to Black Flag. These are: Animal Spirit outfit (Ubisoft Club- Play AC 3 Remastered), Aguilar's outfit (15000R), Alexios' outfit (26000R), Arno Dorian's outfit (15000R), Bayek's outfit (26000R), Jacob Frye's outfit (15000R) and Shay Cormac's outfit (15000R). All outfits stated are currentl y exclusive to the Rebel Collection

The trade off for this is that the Rebel Collection does not include any multiplayer functionality or community events. The rewards for these are instead given directly to the player at the start of the game.

    Bugs and issues

There are some flaws in this version, some minor and some major. Most of the flaws are minor and only cause annoyance, such as skipping the cut-scene at the end of sequence 2 in Rogue not granting credit for the optional objective, or the Mini-map in Rogue being too big, leaving the money to overlap it most of the time. Also, in Black Flag, the bar showing progress for Abstergo challenges will never fully fill, due to the removal of 4 community based challenges (all cheats can still be unlocked, but the last one will say it needs more challenges completed than it does, or that are possible in this version), and there will always be 5 empty spaces in the figurine display outside the animus, due to them requiring multiplayer.

Another issue was experienced by u/monic_maker during the Templar hunt on Cayman Sound, where some am animal became unkillable, preventing progress in the mission, and another bug during the mission where an NPC despawned and a cutscene that should have played never did

A glitch experienced by u/tanthiel caused him to lose his swords during the first fort mission of Rogue

The only major issue I have is that achieving 100% database synchronisation is seemingly impossible for two reasons, the first being that the Maid of Amsterdam shanty is not in the game, and therefore the database entry is not present. The other reason is that the removal of community challenges means that the white whale (sperm whale) cannot be hunted. While the skin can be purchased in order to craft the whaler outfit, it is impossible to get the database entry. The closest I have gotten is 97%, with there being the only two entries I have left.

    Questions

If you have any questions about this version of the game, feel free to ask them, and I will provide an answer if possible.

My Favorite Part of Rogue So Far

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:56 AM PST

So I just platinum'd Black Flag (hold your applause until the end, thank you) and I'm on Rogue now. Hands down the best part so far?

Shay getting a coat with Templar emblems, being given Templar coats of arms for his ship, helping people fighting other people who have literal assassin flags, then being told his new friends are Templars and going "YER WHAT?!"

I love him unironically as a character but the boy needs to work on his observational skills.

You need to spend over $240 AUD to unlock every Gear and Naval pack in Odyssey

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 03:25 PM PST

I'm a huge fan of AC and pre-ordered Odyssey, some of its statues, books, replicas, a whole bunch of stuff. Only to disappointingly get slapped in the face with all these unneeded micro-transactions.

In the past, Assassin's Creed never required you to buy things from the store. You could unlock it all in game. Even in Origins, if you applied yourself, you could get the satisfaction of unlocking all the most bad-ass skins in-game yourself. But now in Odyssey, even with the biggest map in the franchise, they hide all these amazing skins/additions away at the bloody store.

I'm fine with them being in the store, but for them to ONLY be in the store is setting a dangerous, non-consumer friendly and greedy precedent. Not to mention the blatantly grindy gameplay required just to get enough WOOD to upgrade your ship. And what a coincidence, you can buy that in the store too.

I won't lie, the gear/naval packs look amazing, I want them, but I'm refusing to buy them and I hope you all do too. If we buy into this scam then it will only get worse.

I really hope someone from Ubisoft or the new Vikings game sees this. PLEASE allow us to earn everything in game, and if someone wants to buy a skin straight up, let them. It's funny just how much the Odyssey developers talked about giving us choice...all except for giving them more money. Give us the choice.

tldr; Odyssey and Ubisoft are setting a greedy pattern with this franchise and it needs to be stopped.

Do you think that Assassin’s Creed 2020 should have the same RPG mechanics as Odyssey?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 07:22 PM PST

Odyssey was the first Assassin's Creed game I ever played. Thus, I experienced the series somewhat "backwards" by playing Odyssey first, Origins second, Syndicate third, etc.

I understand the dislike for choices in the game, as it conflicts with the fact that technically you're watching memories through the Animus. However, when playing the older games, I found myself completely bored and unengaged with the story BECAUSE I was watching, not playing.

I get that Assassin's Creed fans who played the original games played for the lore and the stealth aspects of it, but in my opinion, the lore means so much more when you have the freedom to choose what memories you see— character development/customization, multiple endings, dialogue options, gear and combat customization, relationships— it just makes the game more engaging and accommodating to all kinds of players, I guess.

Basically, my question is really just wondering if other people feel the same way. Would you like for Assassin's Creed 2020 to continue in the direction of Origins and Odyssey? If so, what improvements would you hope to see in these aspects?

If not, how can the game improve in other ways?

Personally, things in Odyssey that I'd like to be continued/improved on include in the next game include dialogue options, choice consequences/importance of choices, customizable gear/weapons, the importance of upgrading/maintaining gear, skill tree (with different routes to mix and match), meaningful relationships, etc.

    Thanks for reading!

Why does everyone love Odyssey? I think it’s by far the worst game in the series.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 10:10 PM PST

I have played (almost) every mainline assassins creed game. I played 2, brotherhood, revelations, and black flag years ago. I recently bought the collection of all the newer games on ps4 and have played through every single one of them for better or worse.

While I hated the silliness of syndicates characters and story at first, it really grew on me when they started to buckle down towards the end of the game. Origins also threw me for a huge loop at first. It was quite jarring coming directly off of the other games in the series into this huge and fairly deep RPG. But once again, it grew on me.

Origins was near perfect. It had plenty to do and explore, Bayek was amazing, the story was passable, and the combat was fun. It was well paced and well balanced. And I think the real stand out thing for me was I always felt I was doing something important. Being the Medjay was awesome. Seeing the origins of the assassins was dope. It's one of the best modern RPGs I've played.

Then we hop into Odyssey. Not going to lie I was so hyped for this game. Heard so much good things about it online and from friends and after coming off Origins I was really excited.

I notice immediately Alexios acts and talks like a total doofus. Every time he opens his mouth I can't help but laugh because he sounds ridiculous. I watched some videos of the other girl and she seems to be the same. Sounds like a total doofus. I can't take them seriously at all.

When they immediately throw you into a fight I notice the enemies are incredibly spongy. Not to worry this will all change when I level up (nope it doesn't). Oh cool I get a bow! Finally I can really do some stealth! Let me just headshot this guy. Oh only half heath.... okay. Well at least it's still assassins creed let me just sneak behind this guy and kill him instantly... oh can't do that either. Well at least the story will still revolve around the assassins and the.... wait that's not apart of this game either???

I'm not even sure why this game has the assassins logo on the front. This to me is nothing like assassins creed. This is 300 the video game.

It makes me sad because I really REALLY want to play this game. In fact most days I get off work and I boot it up, I look at my ridiculously overcrowded quest log and pick something, then I get in a fight and get frustrated that I just slashed this guys head in 35 times and he's only at 25% health. I literally couldn't put Origins down. I'd stay up late exploring and hunting I had so much fun with that game and the only reason I did put it down was to play odyssey.

What is it that I'm missing? Is this the future of assassins creed?

How do the AC games play on PC?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:48 PM PST

I've been playing this series on console ever since revelations. But I might get a chance to finally build a gaming PC soon. If all goes right I'll be able to run games in 1080p with mid tier settings (around a $500 budget)

I'm not looking to play Origins or Odyssey atm since I've spent so much time with them on console already.

My favorite AC game is Syndicate and I definitely wanna replay the Ezio trilogy. How do the games run on pc? What about mod support? I know Unity obviously had its problems, is it still a difficult game to run?

Decided To Try & Get 100% completion on AC Origins & Odyssey before Next Gen and Before The Next Assassin’s Creed Game Is Released

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:00 PM PST

So I have just decided to strive for that 100% Completion on AC Origins & Odyssey.

List includes - Main Story - Side Stories - Side Quest - Each Location Completed (Sync Points, camps/fortresses, caves, ect so on).. - Each DLC Completed (Ei; Secrets Of The First Pyramids, The Hidden Ones, Hidden Blade DLC & Fate Of Atlantis DLC - Chest & Hidden Collectable ect

I'm wondering if anyone else has have tried doing this or has done it and what are some helpful tips/advice on how to go about doing it and the best gameplay strategies to do so.

I've already completed both games Origins early 2018 but just main story nothing else and then Odyssey early last year only main story and the Atlantis Story with the mythical creatures and the fate of the Atlantis DLC.. to become fully immerse I've decided to use the gameplus replay option and restart complete but keep my current XP level, Stats & Gear & Score from my first play thur so therefore I don't have to grind as much and should a walk in the park and easy and as I'd get more enjoyment by completing Side story's and side quests as I play thru the main story and progress thru each part, I just started 2 days ago doing. I will start with Origins first once done then Odyssey. Origins I have turned of enemy scaling so therefore it should be a bit easier with combat.

If I don't manage to 100% complete both back to back before next gen and next AC Game is released, I'll continue working on achieving 100% on the PS5 (Backwards Compatibility), and I'll hold out for AC Ragnarok and get it on the PS5 once released and then once I have completed both Origins & Odyssey then Start Ragnarok

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 01:17 PM PST

Does anyone by chance know the name of every single playable character throughout the series? I can't find a complete list online. I'm talking EVERYONE like the descendent of Evie Fry in the WWI mission. Edward's African best friend. Beyaks wife: Aya. Haythem Kenway. Im sure I'm missing some others too.

Some confusion about the AC Odyssey Ultimate Edition (plus a question of Gold vs Ultimate)

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 04:28 PM PST

So I've recently 100% AC Origins. Fantastic game. Paid like $30 for the Ultimate Edition and got over 150 hrs out of it and all of the DLC.

Now I'm looking to get Odyssey, as it is also on sale for that same price. But I have 2 questions.

    1. It looks like The Fate of Atlantis Episode 1 is not listed on the MS Store page. Does it come with it? Or is it free or added to the main game? I know it's in the store for $24.99 separately, but that wouldn't seem right if they included Episodes 2 & 3 but not 1.

    2. Is Ultimate worth the extra $5? Does it just give a couple boosts and skins? Or should the Gold Edition suffice (I plan to 100% the game regardless).

Probably dumb questions. Thanks for the info!

Origins: Is my game bugged or am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 08:06 AM PST

I've just reached the point where I'm level 10 and met Aya (so about 3 hours in give or take) and I'm having serious issues with blocking in this game. I'm on Xbox and it says LB is block, which Bayek does raise his shield, however, every enemy attack goes right through no matter what.

I have yet to actually block an attack this entire game. Whether it's a small attack from a random bandit or a heavy attack from a boss. They all go right through, damage, and stun me. Is my game broken or am I supposed to be doing something besides just holding LB to block?

    EDIT: Thanks Everyone!

Does the Illustrious Pirates pack for AC Black Flag apply to single player?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 08:44 AM PST

Specifically, are the three outfits shown available for Edward in the single player campaign? The description mentions content for multiplayer, and I can't find specific details about the pack. I won't bother with multiplayer at all, so I'll only purchase the pack if the outfits are for single player. Thank you!

[SPOILER] Can I get an explanation for Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Fate of Atlantis

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 01:35 PM PST

Hi sorry if this is somewhere already in this sub reddit, but I just finished Fate of Atlantis for the second time, and I still have almost no idea what it is. Can anyone explain it to me?

Aletheia says that Atlantis is a simulation, yet they make Kassandra/Alexios a super important part of it. The fact that the Misthios is half-Isu is also central to the plot, but the real Atlantis was still sunk. By someone else? Why?

I fully understand that Kassandras/Alexios' biggest lesson is that the staff is so powerful they can wipe out an entire city and they have to learn to not use that power.

I understand that the simulations were for Kassandra/Alexios to prepare for the power of the staff of Hermes for example in The Underworld the lesson your Misthios learns is to not get attached to anyone or anything, because your misthios is going to outlive them with the power of the staff.

On the flip side, Aletheia says that the simulation was made largely from her own memories, but I assume she's full Isu, so why is the half-Isu thing at the center of everything?

Additionally, if you take Aita's bait, you see a bunch of copies of yourself that are supposedly his greatest weapon. Who would the real copies have been?

Finally, it just makes me upset that this badass piece of eden was handed off to the completely wrong person LAYLA, that just seemed so wrong, considering the people to have control of it prior (Hermes, Pythagoras, and Kassandra/Alexios.)

What do we actually know about the upcoming viking game?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 04:56 AM PST

I'm only passingly familiar with the AC series: I played Black Flag because pirates are awesome and Syndicate because Victorian London is cool, and that's it.

I normally stay far away from gaming media for the sake of my mental health. But I did hear the next AC is apparently going to be about the Viking Age. As a Nordic I find this interesting; I'm always hungry for viking games that actually get the history, clothing and culture right. I also can't stand predatory microtransactions or multiplayer (I hope that second one doesn't make me sound snooty, I just want my gaming experience for myself).

Before I get my hopes up I just wanted to ask what has been firmly established and what we can surmise about the game based on the more recent ones.
