    Blackflag Saved My Life

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:52 AM PST

Hey guys I posted this as a comment yesterday on a post about Naval combat in AC3 and 4. Thought I'd share it as a post. This was my little story on why I actually love the naval combat, Assassin's Creed, and Edward Kenway. If any of you have a similar story please share them with me. Thank you for reading.

When Blackflag was announced i was skeptical at best. I had taken a small break from the series after revalations to avoid series fatigue. I loved 4, probably my all time favorite, tied with Odyssey. I didn't nesicarilly love the naval combat but I thought it was a fun pace break from everything else, those early games were repetative. I quietly watched Blackflag launch, saw the raving reviews about the new Pirates of the Assassin's Creed, and silly ol me wanting to always support Nintendo, bought it for WiiU for like $20. I have two older brothers, but only one that cared for gaming the way I did. My middle brother, Nickolas always played everything with me. We played many games together constantly. Every Call of Duty, every Skate, we played Sonic 06 and loved it, we played F.E.A.R 1, 2, and 3. Oh my god we played everything. About 2 months after the launch of Blackflag, after I was about 60% or so done with it, and my brother was a nice 24% because he just liked killing people, he had to move back down with our Uncle. He was very terminally ill I guess? Maybe those aren't the right words. He had a heart transplant at the age of 7, and had to be with our Uncle to be close to the hospital. Just maybe another month after that and he passed away, unexpectedly. It hit me very hard, I still haven't recovered from it. The following weeks were blurry, I remember having a friend come over so I wasn't alone. We smoked, and he suggested playing some video games. I turned on Assassin's Creed Blackflag only to find his profile there, above mine because he always had to have the first profile :p he didn't want any of the cool gear, just 2 swords, and 4 guns. He had on the reddest suit in the game. In my emotionless movements I clicked on his profile, and I played the game straight through to completion. I remember being on the ship, the Jackdaw right? I had it fully upgraded, and I sail it very slowly, listening to the shanties, crying when it stormed, destroying everything in my path when I was angry...

I honestly believe that game saved me. Or had a big part in bringing me out of a deep, dark hole. It comforted me. It felt as if we were playing it together still. I was glad him/his character got to make it to the end of the game. So that is why to this day Blackflag is my favorite Assassin's Creed game. It saved my life. If I could personally thank the creators of that game I would. I've thought about sending them a letter, even if it doesn't get to anyone who made it, at least it could let them know that what they're doing matters. Even if there's a hundred thousand people out there that want to bash Assassin's Creed, it saved my life. I loved the Jackdaw. I felt all of this again the instant I played Odyssey, and I love the Adrestia just as much.

Tl;dr - Blackflag saved my life, and the Jackdaw was my best friend.

Edit - I'm truly greatful for each and every single one of your comments. I read a lot of these out loud to my family and they in turn made us tear up 😊 happy holidays, which ever you may celebrate.

Gender selection has no place in assassins creed.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:06 PM PST

It is a feature that Ubisoft staff have said is here to say, for some reason. It is the most superficial feature I can imagine. It wastes crucial time and resources which we know the creed teams don't have much of anyway due to Ubisoft, and it damages the story and the characters as they have to make it so it fits two characters. Making these characters alike just makes them both bad.

Let's be real, men and women are different, they interact and react to things differently, they are reacted too differently, especially in a historical context. We want one protagonist, no one asked for, or wants a choice. Want to make the character a woman? Fine, but by all means recognise the fact that the character is female. This came together in making Kassandra and Alexios the worst protagonists in the franchises history. And no, they are not good because they said a funny joke one time, they have bad stories as the game has to cater to two different characters to fit into it.

Not to mention the obvious disrespect to the lore.

We want a narrative focused around one character(s) so the story is good and you have more time to make other aspects of the game better instead of this redundant and hurtful feature.

Ezio's Theme but a marching band is playing it.

Basically my band played a variation of Ezio's Family for our show opener.

It's based off of this fanmade version of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa0BthfJi0M but sounds more like this version from the same guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJA7tnVmQ74 .

Was there a battle at the Bastille in the late 1300s?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:51 PM PST

In Assassins' Creed: Unity there are some "Time Travel" missions. One of them is about a bloody medieval battle at the Bastille. When the mission starts it says that the year is 1394, so I guess this is during the 100 years war, moreover, I guess the guys in blue must be French and the guys in red must be English. I love that mission, and so I got curious about it, I looked for that battle, but I found nothing, not even the slightest mention of a battle at the Bastille.

Did that battle actually happen or it was just a cool setting to introduce two more Helix missions?

(SPOILERS) AC Odyssey Story so far

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 08:22 AM PST

So far I've only made it to where Myrrine and Kassandra are going to Lakonia. Idk why everyone is criticizing the story so much, I thought the death of Phoebe was emotional as fuck. There was also the Between two worlds quest where Kassandra and Layla meet, two assassins from two different time periods, which by my count has only been done with Altair and Ezio, but Altair was dead. Granted they could've added a lot more potential but it was still something new and exciting.

Couldn’t the armor of Altaïr deflect bullets?

I mean since the armor was made from the Apple, it probably could deflect bullets

An idea for a future installment: from Unity

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 02:49 PM PST

I think that the story of Thomas De Carneillon could be good, any or all of his life. He's the assassin in the beginning of Unity before you play as Arno. https://assassinscreed.fandom.com/wiki/Thomas_de_Carneillon

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:14 AM PST

Still mourning Ade what a legend, Edward's was pretty sad as well killed so young. Can't do Bayek's kid though cause it's too obvious. What was the worst for you.

Replaying the ezio trilogy makes me miss old ac so much

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:24 PM PST

As the title says I've been playing through the ezio trilogy I bought a couple months ago just got around to playing them now and I'm having a blast, just finished ac2 and it has reignited my love for the franchise and I can't wait to start brotherhood which I never actually got to play before. I really do miss playing as an assassin and assassinating targets. This brings me to the state of ac games at the moment I personally really enjoyed odyssey but the game isn't assassins creed, a comment I saw in another post suggested the game should've been called odyssey and I completely agree. I agree with devs trying to reinvent their franchise after having the same gameplay for so long but you need to be able to identify the game even with all the changes and in my opinion the new game just lost all its identity it is no longer ac but again the new game is still great in my opinion. I really hope Ubisoft goes back to its roots and actually reinvents itself and sticks to the feeling of being an assassins I personally would like them to keep the gear system and the world how it is but make us feel like assassins again and also don't bring back the dull combat in my opinion. Thanks for reading.

Something I would like in Assassins Creed concerning combat

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:09 AM PST

Big fan of assassins creed games, story and gameplay both, I've seen comments before about people not liking the style of combat you get in these games, but I've always loved it and the instant counterkills that come with being an unsuspecting assassin, these guys after all are an elite fighting force with extremely rare talents and senses that truly set them apart from the rest of humanity, but the one thing that gets to me is -

as soon as you become an assassin, you equip your weapons and hidden blades and start to free roam the map, you have already unlocked all styles of assassinations and executions, and at the start of the game and by the end of the game, you dont feel any level of progression or change in your combat.

You've been doing the exact same thing from the start of the game which begins to get dull and unexciting, by the end every execution or assassination is something you've already seen a hundred times before

I think it would really help these games if there was a customizable execution and assasination tab, every few sequences or levels, you unlocked new executions and assassination styles, and that you could equip or unequip ones you like or didn't like, keeping on maybe 4 or 5 of each at a time, that cycle randomly just like they do in the previous games.

So instead of being compelled by just the story and type of gameplay you can feel a constant and gradual increase of value for the game and its mechanics, and more importantly the physical and mental progression of your character

    For example:

the higher level assassinations aren't some lengthy drawn out brutal murders but extremely quick, precise and quiet that comes with years of experience. The higher level executions can still be ruthless as most are (though I always found it strange that the assassins and their mentality of only doing things that are neccassary for there ideals of peace, tend have somewhat extreme sadist tendencies in combat) but make them seem more effortless and suave showing that overtime your skills have grown from unexperienced recruit into a confident master assassin

Playing through series for first time and I have a few questions.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:24 AM PST

Sorry if these have already been addressed. I searched briefly and came up empty.

I have problems playing 1st person games so I've been making an effort to play through 3rd person games that I've missed. I just finished the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy with all dlc. That's got me wanting more and I figured AC is a series that could hold me for the foreseeable future. If I had PS4 I probably would've grabbed Uncharted before deciding to tackle the behemoth that is AC, but I'm on Xbox.

I am familiar with the games in that I played AC1 on release and have played an hour or 2 combined of AC2, Black Flag, and Odyssey.

With that said how much do the extras influence story and dialog? I'm still going through the 1st game and intend to play through all of them at a leisurely pace. I won't be hunting down everything extra but just collecting things and doing missions as they are found.

In the first game so far intel seems to be the only factor that really changes a mission. And even then I don't know if it actually opens anything up or just a requirement to be met. I do know that, in the 1st game at least, there is a hidden memory sequence or video or something. I won't be hunting those down. I'll just watch it on youtube or something after completion.

Ultimately I want to know how much do I need to do to have a coherent narrative without going to the point of burning myself out on any 1 of the games. Dialog and story is mostly what I'm interested in.

Also, Altair is a dick. More than I remember anyway. It's quite jarring.

Thanks in advance for the help.

PC Gamers of Assassin's Creed: do you play with a keyboard+mouse, or with a controller?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 10:46 AM PST

I don't know why this question is bugging me so much, but it just kinda feels sucky when playing with a KB+M (TBF, I have only played Syndicate on PC, and the parkour, etc. is quite easy), because my hands start to hurt a bit. Maybe it's the way I use my keyboard, but i find it hard to hold shift while moving forward while maybe having other shit to do. But I am weird, I use only a couple of fingers to type, so that could be why.

Pcmasterrace would obviously be up in arms, but I just don't see the benefit (obviously having a million keys for different purposes is cool, but maybe not completely useful for me.

So what do you use? Why?

How is the grind in odyssey at this point?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:35 AM PST

I will preface this by saying my only experience with the assassin's creed series is 2, and I haven't finished it yet.

I noticed that Odyssey is on sale right now, I told a friend of mine I think I might pick it up possibly.

He responds to me by saying I wouldn't, it is an overly grindy pos, it takes to long to level up and get gear etc, without buying boosts.

So is this true or what? It looks like a decent game to me, but I do detest excessive grinding in video games.

    Thoughts?

    Any responses will be appreciated.

i've been gone forever and i need some answers story wise

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 12:40 PM PST

hello everyone, excuse my bad english.

i have played the first assassins creed(s) on xbox 360 with ezio(?) but i never played the last one of this story (i think brotherhood?) meanwhile i missed out on many assassins creeds and i never was a fan of lets plays of such huge open world games. now im almost done with odyssey (finished the main story, finished atlantis and almost done with the cosmos people)

my question is, what happened with the story? i mean odyssey is a great game but it has nothing to do with assassins. who is alexios/kassandra, what happened in between the other ac games, are the stories somehow relevant to each other? the game raised A LOT of questions for me.

also why the f did alexios/kassandra keep the staff that makes him survive basically forever? im so damn confused.

another tiny question: what happened with leaving the animus? it used to be a (useless) thing in the xbox ac's. you could do it at any time talk with your crew etc. in odyssey i left it a total of 3 times which seems really weird to me.

What is your opinion on the development teams so far?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 12:55 AM PST

Ubisoft Montreal hands down has made the best games in the franchise, and while the original team who made the Ezio trilogy and AC1 was disbanded, the current Montreal that made BF and Origins is still doing an amazing job. I know the teams work hard on their games but Quebec has made the worst games in the franchise. Montreal is making the next AC game and hopefully it's amazing like their previous titles.

    terrible controls for Ac:Unity

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 05:00 AM PST

im new to the assassins creed scene (frightening) and i have fully completed assassins creed black flag (i know its not the best thing to start on the fourth game but i intend to go back to the previous games when i have the chance) now, im on assassins creed unity and I had completely gotten used to the ac black flag control scheme but compared to that unity's controls are pure garbage does anyone know how to make unity's controls feel more like black flags?
